Since November 2022, we have been operating mobile food pantries in 4 outlying communities in Oconee County. On the 1st Saturday of every month, dedicated volunteers meet at the Seneca facility at 8:00 am to pack boxes and bags with food and load the refrigerated truck. Then, another team of local volunteers meets the truck at the Westminster Baptist Church in Westminster to help welcome clients and distribute the food. On the 2nd Saturday, we make a stop at the Salem First Baptist Church, and on the 3rd Saturday of every month, we make stops in Mountain Rest and Long Creek. At all mobile pantry sites, the clients must meet the same eligibility requirements as clients at the Seneca facility. In 2024, we are serving an average of 75 households per month– in most cases, families and individuals who were not receiving food assistance before they started coming to the mobile food pantries. These families are very grateful for the opportunity to get a cart of healthy food (and a few sweet treats!) without the expense and difficulty of making a trip to Seneca.
