Thanks to a volunteer who donated the new sign, on Monday, Oct 6th, the Golden Corner Food Pantry hoisted a new logo with a new message over their doors – Making Life Better for clients. We distribute about 1.5 million pounds of food annually to an average of 1,450 households per month, including over 500 seniors. But it is not “just” a Food Pantry:

  • It is a Nutrition Center. The “Improved Nutrition” program started this year ensures clients get nutritional food including fresh milk, whole grain cereal, and extra eggs, cheese & meat.
  • It is a Senior Resource. The “Senior Food Program” ensures seniors have sufficient and balanced food to improve their quality of life with a “Drive Through” program on Mondays.
  • It is a Single Mother and Family “get through tough times” Center. The “Daily Food Program” helps single mothers and families who have lost jobs get by until they find a new one. The Food Pantry is also there when working households with very low incomes need to spend their limited funds on unexpected emergencies like fixing the car, covering a medical bill or a house repair.
  • It has “Make Life Better” counselors. The Food Pantry works closely with local churches and agencies. When clients come they are asked if they need help beyond food (over half say they do). Food Pantry interviewers discuss client’s needs and guide them to the right local agencies and churches. In the last year this effort has helped over 240 clients find jobs, get their GED’s, get counseling, spiritual or medical help, or needed clothing. Here is what one client recently said “…These are the things people like us need: resources to enable us to help ourselves, not just receive handouts. God bless you all.”

The new logo represents our approach to helping clients make a meaningful change in their lives for the better. If you’d like to help please send donations to Golden Corner Food Pantry, PO box 456, Seneca, SC 29678.
